Ron Howard celebrates rivalries in sports with brilliant ‘Rush’

Sports movies are awesome, aren’t they? Well, they are if they are done right. Why? Because everyone can relate sports to life in some way. That’s the beauty of Ron Howard’s new film, “Rush”, an exciting and in depth look at the competitive fire that burns in race car drivers.

If you are a race fan, you know how dangerous Formula One Racing is and just how crazy you have to be to do it. The year is 1976. Great Britain’s James Hunt  and Germany’s Niki Lauda are two of the best drivers on the circuit. They hate each other, but they also respect each other. It’s that desire to out-drive the other, and to be the best that sparks the passion that fuels this race season and cements their rivalry as one of the greatest in sports. ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2’ might leave some with food poisoning

CloudyMeatballs2Animated movies are hit and miss. This year has seen a few good ones, but a few bad ones as well. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” fits into the second group of films, although it still features some deliciously fun animation.

The sequel to the 2009 hit, which itself is based on a children’s book, proves that at least when it comes to story development, there isn’t much originality left in the old cookbook. The jokes are rarely funny, and the characters, despite some solid voice talent, are instantly forgettable. ‘The Prisoners’ is relentless and intense film with tons of plot twists

prisonersPICWhat would you do if your child was taken? What if you felt the police had the right suspect and for whatever reason was letting him go, letting him walk….letting him go free?

Hugh Jackman and Terrance Howard playing working class suburban fathers whose daughters are abducted on Thanksgiving. As the film plays out, we see how each man deals with the pain and grief and helplessness. One of them even goes so far as to abduct the lead suspect in the case, determined to beat the truth out of him.
