On my latest appearance on KC Live with Michael Mackie and Michelle Davidson, I had the please of talking about one of the greatest films of all time. No, not “Prisoners”, although it’s a solid movie.KCLIVE

I’m actually talking about the great and powerful “Wizard of Oz”. You can check out the link to my review below. I didn’t see the need to waste a page with a review here, because I know you’ve all seen it a thousand times and by the time you probably read this, it will be gone from theatres and out on DVD.

‘The Prisoners’ is relentless and intense film with tons of plot twists

prisonersPICWhat would you do if your child was taken? What if you felt the police had the right suspect and for whatever reason was letting him go, letting him walk….letting him go free?

Hugh Jackman and Terrance Howard playing working class suburban fathers whose daughters are abducted on Thanksgiving. As the film plays out, we see how each man deals with the pain and grief and helplessness. One of them even goes so far as to abduct the lead suspect in the case, determined to beat the truth out of him. ‘The Family’ lacks everything that usually works for De Niro and gangsters

This movie could have been gold, baby.robertdenirothefamily

Robert De Niro? — Check.

Producer Martin Scorcese? — Check.

Director Luc Besson? Che — err, wait, who is that again?

He did “The Fifth Element” — Oh. I see. Ummm….

And “Leon (the Professional)” — oh! Sweet flick. Go on.

Yeah, anyways, that’s all fine and good and this movie could have been awesome — but it’s not. And it’s just as disappointing as you might think. De Niro. Dark comedy. Gangsters. Violence, f-bombs and an R-Rating. But man, it goes nowhere with this promise.
