‘RED 2’ is more of the same but not in a good way

This happens with sequels.  A studio catches lightning in a bottle, makes money, tries to duplicate formula and gets mixed but disappointing results. That seems to be the biggest problem with “RED 2”, starring Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren.

RED2picEveryone is back, which is good I guess. But they don’t seem to be having as much fun. Maybe it’s the plot, which involves Marvin (Malkovich) trying to convince Frank (Willis) their lives are in danger when they are framed for something to do with an old weapon program during the cold war.

So once they are on the run, they have to drag Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) along, because all she is doing is complaining she wants a gun and wants something to do. ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ lacks brains and a memorable villain

diehard5bIn “A Good Day to Die Hard”, the fifth installment in the action franchise, Detective John McLane is now a senior member of the NYPD. He’s still bald, but starting to show signs of age with grey stubble and a few more wrinkles. In the last movie, “Live Free or Die Hard”, Mclane made up with estranged daughter. This time around, he’s been searching for his estranged son, Jack (Jai Courtney), only to found out that his boy has been thrown into a Russian prison for assassinating a crime lord in front of a club full of people. McLane assumes his son has fallen into drugs and desperation so he goes to Russia to help his son.

‘Moonrise Kingdom’ (2012) movie review

#35 of 100 on my 100 Movies I’ve Never Seen Before Challenge (part II)

When the summer movie season began, this was easily one of the movies I was most looking forward to. Unfortunately, it took forever to get to Kansas City theatres. I am happy to say “Moonrise Kingdom” was well worth the wait. Wes Anderson delivers a funny, quirky and heart warming story about the awkwardness of young love.
