‘Flight’ is the perfect showcase for Denzel Washington — movie review

With “Flight”, director Robert Zemeckis returns to the land of live-action filmmaking with his first non-animated movie since “Cast Away” in 2000. Then, he had Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as a lead. This time around, Zemeckis comes armed with Academy Award winner Denzel Washington. Here Denzel plays Whip Whitaker, a stud airline pilot who is also an alcoholic who loves to drink and do cocaine. He’s got an ex-wife and a 15 year-old son who want nothing to do with him but he’s hooking up with a stewardess played by the gorgeous Nadine Velazquez, so it’s not all bad…or is it? ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ brings Nolan’s trilogy to an epic ending — movie review

Christopher Nolan certainly had his work cut out for him following the unbelievable box office and critical success of “The Dark Knight” in 2008. He is also working with the pressure that three-quels– especially in the super hero genre– hardly ever work. Incredibly with “The Dark Knight Rises”, he is able to deliver a fitting, even if bloated, final act to his “Dark Knight trilogy” that is sure to set one hell of a bar for the remainder of the DC Comics family to try and live up to. ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ is a beautiful and emotional look at life in the bayou

“Once there was a Hushpuppy, and she lived with her daddy in The Bathtub.”

BeastsSouthernWild2This is our introduction to Quvenzhané Wallis, who plays the 5-year-old Hushpuppy, a resident of the Bathtub in the Louisiana bayou. A bathtub is a community of the bayou that has been cut off by a levee. Little Hushpuppy lives with her father, Wink (Dwight Henry), a man struggling with his health as much as his anger issues. Together they struggle but they survive in their poor, ramshackle village. This is their life and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
