‘The World’s End’ brings Edgar Wright’s Cornetto trilogy to a brilliant close

worldsendA few years ago, “Shaun of the Dead” took us all by surprise and made Edgar Wright a household name in the in the United States geek kingdom. Now, with the appropriately titled “The World’s End”, he wraps up his Cornetto Trilogy, which began with “Shaun of the Dead”, continued with “Hot Fuzz”.

Much of the same cast returns. Of course, the main two players, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are back. What is amazing about Edgar Wright’s movies, is how even though he brings the same actors back, they are always playing totally different characters.

Here, Pegg is playing one of the darkest characters in an Edgar Wright movies. As, Gary King, he’s trying to reunite his estranged buddies for a night of drinking and bar hopping as they try and conquer the Golden Mile, 12 pints from 12 pubs.

They failed to do it as teens and it seems even less likely as adults, especially because Gary has drifted from each of his childhood mates for one reason or another. But before the night is over, he will have to face his past mistakes, as well as an army of invading alien robots to get to the final pub, The World’s End.
