Unnecessary ‘Riddick’ lacks interesting story and characters

This is one of those movies that just begs the question of “Why are they still making these??”riddickmonster

“Riddick” the third installment in Vin Diesel’s personal crusade trilogy finds our hero, John Riddick (Diesel), awakening on a dangerous and desolate planet, having been abandoned and left for dead some time after the events of “Chronicles of Riddick”.

You don’t have to be fully caught up on the events of that movie, or even the events of the first movie in this series, “Pitch Black”, but it certainly helps. Thankfully, this movie tries to get back to the man vs. monsters roots of that first flick, but still just feels redundant and wholly unnecessary.

Diesel is, as usual solid, in action scenes but attempts at drama fall woefully short. But that has more to do with a supporting cast of actors that are struggling to play wooden and cliched characters.
