‘Super 8’ a wonderful tribute to Spielberg classics from J.J. Abrams — movie revie

Sometimes when you combine two iconic film makers, especially two men like Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams, you never know how much egos will clash and what the end result will be.  Of course on the surface, Super 8 is a sure fire hit, right?  The guy who made Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. and Goonies getting together with the guy who brought us Lost, Alias, Cloverfield and the newly revamped Star Trek.  Can of corn right? ‘Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides’ has less magic but less fun, too — movie review

Who says movies are played out by the time part four in a series rolls around?  While this may be true for some movies– Indiana Jones maybe?– I can point to James Bond and Harry Potter as movie characters that have endured well beyond the trilogy curse.  Despite what most critics would have you believe, I think its safe to put Jack Sparrow on that list as well.  Oh excuse me– Captain.  Captain Jack Sparrow.  Savy?

“Thor: The Mighty Avenger” (2011)– Movie Review

While the movies aren’t always perfect, Marvel seems to have it figured out.  Audiences want consistency.  It’s worked for the Harry Potter movies and now, Marvel Studios is working it on a whole new level that DC Comics just doesn’t seem to get.  I checked out “THOR”– finally– this weekend.  Coming into this summer, this was one of the movies that I thought could really suck it up.  Thankfully, while it’s not exactly a thought provoker like, say– Inception– it entertains both as a movie and as a set up for next summer’s The Avengers.
