‘Anna Karenina’ bends reality line between stage and screen — movie review

Many consider Leo Tolstoy’s novel, “Anna Karenina” to be the greatest love stories ever told. Over the years, the years there have been numerous adaptations of the serial novel that was published from 1873 to 1877. The latest version from director Joe Wright (“Atonement”) is a movie filled with love and hope but also heartbreak and tragedy as well as a visual treat that will not soon be forgotten. It is the story of love, of great love– powerful love and all the stupid things love can make us do. It is also a heart-breaking tale of the tragically selfish things love can draw us into. Silly ‘Rise of the Guardians’ could have been a heck of a lot worse — movie review

What if Santa Claus was the leader of magical superheroes whose primary job, besides delivering toys and hiding eggs, was to protect kids– and the world– from villainous characters that would rather strike fear than deliver good-natured holiday cheer. Think The Avengers, except instead of Tony Stark, you have Santa Claus. It’s silly and goofy, but that’s kind of the point. In “Rise of the Guardians” we are introduced early on to Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine) after he is resurrected by the man in the moon following a tragic and mysterious accident. ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ may need multiple viewings to understand — movie review

Who’s in it?: Christopher Plummer (Dreamscape, Dragnet the Movie), Andrew Garfield (the next Spider-Man), Johnny Depp, (Nick of Time, Sweeny Todd) and the late, great Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight, A Knight’s Tale)

Directed by: Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Time Bandits)

I am really hoping at some point in my life I will understand this movie, even just a little bit, because this one is all over the place.  I’m not even sure where to start.  This is one movie that I could sit down and tell you every detail and you would still have no clue what the hell was going on if and when you finally saw it.  In fact, the less you know the better.  Let’s just say there is a guy who makes a deal with the devil and of course being the devil there are always strings attached.  So another deal is made for souls.  That’s all you get.  Good luck.
